I wrote this way back in the 70's when I first saw Cheech and Chong's Up in Smoke. I recorded it in 2004. Finally I got around to uploading it here, it's fun, it's true, as it happened...Enjoy!

Evan Paul is a very unique artist. His music is totally original, multi-genre, mostly acoustic, new age, easy listening, uplifting and spiritual.
I'm a Canadian songwriter musician and have recently released my first CD, "Spirits in the Sky". It's an instrumental, classical guitar album with sweeteners such as flute and strings. After decades of performing in various bands and as solo, I have finally settled on recording and writing, and only playing live ocasionally. Result, is a sweet, easy listening and spiritually uplifting work that defies any genre placement. It's pure acoustic and very melodic. Also, one will notice vocal songs and collaborations with various world artists. Presently, my latest CD "Eklektika" is active. It's one of the most original multi-genre instrumental album ever created. Unlike my previous, "Spirits in the Sky" collection, this one has percussion, a little more punch, but still retains that Evan Paul style of classical guitar playing. Enjoy!!!

Story behind the song
Back in the 70's, I saw Cheech and Chong's "Up in Smoke" movie the night before. I had one of the most realistic nightmares I have ever had. I woke up with tears in my eyes, cause it was so real. The scenes were so fresh in my mind, it took no time to write the lyrics as it happened. In 2004, I finally recorded it, and I thought it would be fun to put it up now. I hope you like it.

The Party Evan Paul Kozaris Well all my friends have gathered round, Seems our parties are talk of the town, Word got around that weve got some smoke, And all our parties are One Big Toke, Well people were dancing and having a ball, Listening to Funky Rock n Roll, Something came over me that night, Kept me on edge, kind of uptight, Someone said, hey, I hear a knocking at the door, I began to pick up all the roaches from the floor, A voice was heard saying, Open Up Police, And they walked right in, fore I could hide the keys Fortunately, it was only Stanley, It was only a joke, Yea it was only Stanley, Said Stanley, hi there fellas, Im sorry I scared you(s) like that, You seeI didnt say Open Up Police, I only said.Open up Please.", Well everyone knows Stanleys a friend, When one has a message, they know who to send, Nevertheless, hes the life of the Party, And he makes us laugh and he makes us hearty. You mean, it was only a dream? It never happened? Ummmm? Im free.it never happened, It was only a dream..it never happened.

nice recording, truly an original. not sure how i ever escaped arrest in those days with all the foolish chances, just luck. the vocals in this are great. fine instrumentation, arrangement and production. who writes a song and records it twenty five years later?...glad you did.

Oh the days of Cheech and Chong bring back many fond memories (a few I do remember that is) This song reminds me of a time frame of the end of the 70's when disco was still hanging on with a little more modern vibe to it. Really nice song and production and the performances are top shelf!

Wow Evan....why you held this one back for so long i don't get hehe. What a fun tune...and yup...saw Up in Smoke when it hit the big screen yrs ago. Your lyrics tell a great story...very "believable"...but...it was all "just a dream"...which i did not expect for the first 3/4 of the tune. Very believable all the way...then...bamm...of course...a dream -:) Production is stellar...as always. All the background work on the different guitar parts sit just perfect...enough to fill....but not over done. Everything is super clean and clear. I loved the "bridge" area (court scene)....where the combination of chord movement fit perfectly....dire sounding in that area -:) Very well thought-out lyrics and melodies all come together into an amusing story which turns out to be a dream...of sorts hehe. Truly...a great track from a wonderful musician and artist. A "highly" recommended listen -:)

Helluva dream Evan! Fun story..this world needs all the humor it can get. That aside, i immediately notice your all pro mixing and production skills. You must do that for a living because all your songs have that "cut above" sound. Thanks for the heads up and great to hear from you again. Hope there are some more to come!

Awesome song, very fun. For some reason I awoke with the 3 Dog Night's Momma told me not to come playing in my head. Then I listened to this and thought, "the tradition continues." Great humor put to wonderful music and vocals. Nice job!

I remember watching "Up In Smoke" at our local drive-in (now an RV park) - those were the days... This is a cool tune Evan! Great humor in your vocal expression - and an excellent arrangement! Cool listen :)
