Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
A first term song as winter approached, played in the picking style I learnt from Ray Brockman at school. This worked OK for solo guitar and vocal, so I played it a lot from the Denmark in East Ham through to Kings Banana. Ralph Simpson would have played flute on this.
Lyrics
The wind is turning blowing from the north again Its time for leaving on the road Ill stray When the ice comes across the river Ill be safe in the warm southern rain Evenings are closing you live by artificial light The birds are leaving they know its time for flight And in their wake now Ill soon be going Time to follow the sunshines might Like a hypnotist the sun attracts me Feel the power of light on your face Leaving there when the night distracts me Memories that the cold cant erase
